The etymology of “Bak-bahadur” could be assigned to this blog if I was not experiencing deja vu while thinking about people/mails in “myodisa”. It is this yahoogroup which is being done postmetorm here.
So Bak-bahadur derives it’s origin from terms like Roybahadur, Bagbahadur or simply Bahadur. Although, Bahadur means courageous, these three terms have different colloquial usage. Bahadur is the commonly refered name of any Gurkha or Nepali, even if there are many of them who dont have this surname. They mostly work as low-paid nightwatchmen or security guards. The Roybahadur is a title thrown to the loyal Jamindars of India by the british, which they carried on as a sign of aristocracy. Lastly, Bagbahadur is movie, with the leading character named such, which influenced me quite a lot during my high-school. Bagbahadur used to be an artist who painted his body with yellow and black and played tiger. In those remote places he went, people loved him, respected him, untill a circus brought up a real tiger. The movie ended in a sad note after a shortwhile, leaving me confounded with a sinking contradiction which spreaded to almost everything I thought about later.
Bak means word or speech.
“Myodisa” is group of oriya scientists, professionals, students whatever but definitely educated people, staying abroad and in India. It is not the only group like that, but the only one I have access to. About a thousand probably are members, and hardly few people care to post. What they talk, why they talk is a matter to be discussed. Anyway as soon as I was introduced to be group I was astonished by the common superstitions the members carried and postes in the name of science. After some on and off discussions with the active members I found it was worthless. But I decided to keep silent in the restricted access forum but unmask them in a more open place like this blog. Of course, that is till the time they get to know who I am, they wont have much trouble finding out though.
So if u dont agree with me, just walk away……..
